Joint MPIfG and Sciences Po PhD seminar in Cologne

Sixteen doctoral researchers met in Cologne in September 2018 for the joint MPIfG and Sciences Po seminar on the role of the future in economics and political sociology. The seminar was led by Jens Beckert (MPIfG), Jenny Andersson (MaxPo Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies), and Marcin Serafin (Max Planck Partner Group for the Sociology of Economic Life) and centered on a new strand of economic sociology that is concerned with the power of narratives and fictions to affect future developments. It gave the doctoral students of the International Max Planck Research School on the Social and Political Constitution of the Economy (IMPPRS-SPCE) the opportunity to present and receive feedback on their work. The MPIfG and Sciences Po have been holding joint conferences and doctoral seminars regularly since 2008.
