Professor of Comparative Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Director of the KHK/Centre for Global Cooperation ResearchSigrid Quack is Senior Professor of Sociology at the University of Duisburg-Essen, former director of the KHK/Centre for Global Cooperation Research and currently Principal Investigator of the DFG Research Training Group “Cross-border Labor markets”. She is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Organization Theory. She is a sociologist with an interdisciplinary orientation and is broadly interested in the preconditions, actors, and effects of the development of transnational and global institutions. Her research focuses on the constitution of epistemic and governance authority involving public, private, and civil society actors. Ongoing projects seek to understand legitimacy and critique of global cooperation in contexts where actors adhere to different and often conflicting world order conceptions. In particular, she is interested in revisiting transnational and global communitíes in times of nationalism. How do different conceptions of existing, imagined, or re-imagined past world orders shape public discourses and narratives across different world regions, among political and economic elites and wider publics? How do they shape cooperation within transnational communities in different policy fields, such as sustainability, internet, or migration governance? Quack is also interested in studies of transnational communities of professionals, and how different world order conceptions play out within them.
