Hannah Pool Receives Albert Ballin Award for Globalization Research
In May of this year, MPIfG postdoctoral researcher Hannah Pool was presented the Albert Ballin Award for Globalization Research by Hapag-Lloyd AG for her dissertation “‘Doing the Game’: The Moral Economy of Coming to Europe.” She received the 5,000-euro prize during an academic conference to mark the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (HAPAG). It is awarded to support early career academics and researchers whose work contributes to a broader and deeper understanding of the opportunities and risks of globalization. “‘Doing the Game’” follows the trajectories of people migrating from Afghanistan to Western Europe via Iran, Turkey, Greece, and the Balkan route. Pool has been a postdoctoral researcher at the MPIfG since completing her doctoral studies with the IMPRS-SPCE in 2021.
